Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Aeronautical English language proficiency test?

The Aeronautical English test assesses a pilot’s or an air traffic controller’s proficiency to communicate on common, concrete and work-related topics with accuracy and clarity.

It evaluates pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and interaction according to ICAO and EASA regulations from Level 1 (the worst) to level 6 (the best).

The minimum operational level is level 4.

All commercial Pilots and all Air Traffic Controllers licenced by an EASA Member State must hold a valid ICAO English language proficiency certificate (Level 4 or higher).
You do not need this test if you fly with a PPL license and you use your native language for radiotelephony.

Our tests are designed to meet EASA standards and are accepted by an EASA Member State.

Nevertheless, always check with your licensing CAA before booking.

Definitely.

AviationLAB offers fully online ICAO English tests for Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers. You can take the test from home with a computer, webcam, and stable internet connection.
